silk bouquets at wedding fair

silk bouquets at wedding fair

10th October 2016

I had a great day at the Kingston Maurward wedding fair in Dorchester on Sunday.

The sun was shining and lots of brides came to see the magnificent house and gardens, and meet the helpful wedding suppliers in the stunning rooms of the house.

The picture shows my stand with my silk bouquets and my new board of silk flower samples. And the ceiling of the room I was in - stunning!

Above are the rich autumnal flowers ready to be made into a silk bridal bouquet and buttonhole for my latest couple - a beautiful October bride and her groom.

Summer vintage daisy bouquet

vintage summer daisy bouquet

9th August 2016

Whilst at a promotional event at the wholesalers I saw a arrangement being made with fresh flowers and some lovely wispy grasses, I thought they would also look great in a bouquet with silk flowers.

I chose a loose hand tied design of summer flowers - pink daisies and sweet peas, and with a little artistic licence included pink ranunculus and white blossom, which are spring flowers of course.

To give it a vintage, hand-made look I included four lovely fabric hearts and bound the stems with fabric ribbon. Their natural beige colour matched the grasses.

I also made a simple child’s wand from a heart and grasses, covered with ribbon and tied with a bow. The grasses move playfully when waved in the air!

The matching buttonhole is just a heart with grasses looped over and secured through the wooden bead.

before and after daisies

soldering flowers!

31st May 2016

Many silk flowers develop frayed edges, so my first job before I can even start to assemble a bouquet or buttonhole is to tidy up the offending edges.

I've found the easiest method is to melt the threads away with a soldering iron. The trick is to move the iron lightly along the petal edge quickly enough that it doesn't burn a hole whilst taking great care not to touch any other petals or your fingers - easy!

It's rather time consuming, makes you go cross-eyed and the burning material on the iron makes smoke which isn't very pleasant to breath in, but the end result is very satisfying and makes all the difference to the quality of the flower.

Silk bouquet of spring flowers

bouquet of spring yellows

25th March 2016

The sun is shining and the garden is full of bright yellow flowers … Hurrah! Spring is here!

My spring flower wedding bouquet is also full of yellow and orange flowers - small daffodils, tulips, ranunculus and crocus, with fresh green hazel leaves and catkins. The handle is covered in yellow paper ribbon and it’s finished with a double swirl of the paper ribbon over the top.

The matching buttonhole has two ranunculus flowers and a sprig of hazel leaves and catkins.

But unlike the spring flowers in the garden this silk bouquet will not die but remain fresh and become a lasting keepsake of a wonderful spring wedding.

This bouquet and buttonhole will be amongst the many examples I will have on display at the wedding fair at stunning Dillington House near Ilminster on Thursday 14th April, 5pm - 9m. Free entry and welcome drink, over 60 suppliers and a fabulous musical firework display at 9pm. Organised by By Invitation Events

Red rose heart bouquet

valentine heart

14th February 2016

Congratulations if you got engaged on Valentine’s Day!

You might also be considering a Valentine’s Day wedding - red roses, hearts, soft music - what could be more romantic?

Nothing! But fresh roses are SO expensive at this time of year, taking them beyond many brides budgets.

The answer to this seasonal problem is SILK. Red silk roses aren't more expensive than any other colour at this time of year and can be purchased well before Valentine's Day anyway.

Here is a bouquet of beautiful velvety red roses with looped grasses to form a heart around the flowers, intertwined with ribbon and fine red wool. And a buttonhole to match.

winter bouquet

winter sparkles

19th January 2016

Unlike some parts of the UK, here in the south west we still haven’t had many cold days yet this winter, just lots of soggy grey days. My latest winter bouquet will add sparkle to any winter wedding no matter the weather.

Christmas decorations found at my local garden centre are the base for this bouquet! The beautiful large skeleton leaves are made from silver-grey material with gold glitter and bead details. These complement the dusky blue-grey Hydrangea flowers on the top and sandwiched between the leaves. To bring out the blue in the flowers I have used blue satin ribbon to cover the handle. There is also a matching buttonhole.
