silk flower wedding headdresses

beautiful silk flower wedding headdresses

14th September 2017

Two new headdress designs. The first is a light and delicate ring of pink and mauve sweet-peas and small roses, with asparagus fern leaves. Pink and mauve satin ribbons are threaded around the headdress and tied into a bow at the back. There is also a matching sweet-pea buttonhole.

The second silk headdress has a spring feel, with white roses and apple blossom, blue forget-me-nots and fresh green apple leaves and maidenhair fern leaves.

Both these headdresses can be seen on my stand at The Dorset & Somerset Wedding Showcase this coming Sunday, along with many beautiful silk bouquets and buttonholes.

silk bouquets in shades of blush and peach

silk bouquets in shades of blush and peach

25th August 2017

Beautiful photos of Jo and Tim's wedding at Holbrook House taken by photosbyjim, in April this year.

Jo's bridesmaid dresses were teal which is a tricky colour to match with flowers, so she decided to go with complementary blush and peach tones instead.

The bouquets contained clematis, roses, stephanotis and gypsophila, with matching rose buttonholes.

Thank you Jo and Tim (and photosbyjim) for the brilliant photos!

pastel rainbow silk bouquet

pastel rainbow meets alice in wonderland!

14th August 2017

Congratulations to Becca and Paul, I hope they had a brilliant day.

Becca’s silk bouquet was a beautiful collection of roses, hydrangea and snapdragon flowers in a pastel rainbow of colours, with silver charms in the shapes of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ figures.

The flower stems were covered in multi-coloured ribbon, to which a locket with a photo of Becca’s late father was added.

Paul had a matching pastel rainbow buttonhole using the same flowers.

replica silk bouquet in purples and white

replica silk bouquet for wedding reshoot

20th July 2017

The weather had been unkind to Megan and Stephen on their wedding day last year, so they decided to have some more photos taken this summer.

As the whole point of the reshoot was to be able to have some really lovely sunny photos of the couple taken outside in the grounds of the venue, picking the day was always going to be a last minuet decision.

Arranging a fresh flower bouquet and buttonhole at such short notice wasn’t going to be an option, so Megan contacted me to see if a silk replica of her bouquet was possible.

Using the great photos from their wedding I was able to make a bouquet similar to the original. Unfortunately silk flowers don’t come in quite so many colour shades as fresh ones and it wasn’t possible to match the purples exactly. Megan was very understanding about the limitations of silk flowers and was very pleased with the replica bouquet and buttonhole.

The reshoot took place on a lovely sunny day and Megan and Stephen finally got the beautiful outdoor photos they wished for. And a bouquet to keep forever!

The photo on the left is of Megan holding her fresh flower bouquet on her wedding day. The centre photo is of Megan and Stephen this year with their silk bouquet and buttonhole. Both photos taken by Graham Davies Photography.

The two photos on the right were taken by myself, showing the bouquet handle and flowers a little closer. Megan also asked for the bouquet to be a little bit smaller than the original.

silk cabbage rose and rose flower scent

fresh flower scent for silk bouquets

27th April 2017

In recent years the quality of silk flowers has improved considerably (except those found on garage forecourts and cheap national high street stores!), they are more realistic and there is now a wonderfully large range of varieties.

Silk flowers like the cabbage rose are so realistic it’s hard to tell they aren’t the real thing, that is until you put your nose near to inhale their divine scent - disappointing!

But now you don’t have to miss out on the scent fresh flowers bring to your wedding bouquet. Available in a range of flowers scents, scented oil can be added to your bouquet to add that extra dimension which has traditionally been missing from silk flower bouquets.

I currently have four different scents - Rose, Lavender, Freesia and Flower Shop, that can be added to your bouquet just before delivery to give you a lovely scented wedding bouquet.

silk spring garden flowers ready for bouquet making

spring garden bouquet

11th April 2017

I’ve been so looking forward to making the spring bouquet with these flowers. It’s going to be a new style for me, much larger and looser than my usual designs but really beautiful and something I would love to do more of.

The flowers’ petals have all been ‘soldered’ to smooth any frayed edges and are now ready to be put together to form a loose trailing bouquet.

The bride’s love of daffodils and the blue of her bridesmaids’ dresses were the main influences in the colouring of the bouquet. Yellow freesias and forsythia, white blossom and gypsophila, and variegated ivy will be added to the daffodils, with pops of blue delphiniums and matching satin ribbon to cover the stems.

It’s going to be a long wait, but I’m really looking forward to being able to show you the photos of the finished bouquet after the wedding next year!

silk christmas wreath and table arrangement

silk christmas wreath

20th December 2016

Modern Christmas door wreath and table runner arrangement of silk flowers and cinnamon sticks.

Beautiful winter white silk roses, freesias and hellebores, with fresh green artificial apples and ivy leaves, dark pine leaves, and real pine cones, all arranged down the centre of a row of cinnamon sticks.

The door wreath has a small bunch of the silk flowers and foliage hanging from the bottom by a satin ribbon.

Two wreaths placed together make a stunning table centre, and the scent from the cinnamon sticks really adds to the Christmassy feel.

winter silk arrangements

sparkling winter designs

5th December 2016

Just like the frosty weather we have been having lately this silk bouquet certainly has a wintery feel, ideal for a winter wedding.

I don’t usually choose silk flowers that aren’t the same colour as the real ones they replicate, but I couldn’t resist these delicate bluey-grey Nerines.

The silver cord covered handle and glittery silver birch twigs add a frosty sparkle to the ivory roses and Nerines.

The two Nerine flower heads hanging from the twigs have diamanté bead details, as does the end of the handle and the simple but elegant matching buttonhole.

The bouquet, buttonhole and large arrangement can now be seen in the window of Not Just Brides in Westbury, Wiltshire.

So very pleased with these new Hellebore flowers from a new supplier.

They would also make a beautiful late winter wedding bouquet, just by themselves as a hand tied bouquet held together with a simple ribbon.

dahlia flowers

beautiful dahlias, fresh and silk

24th October 2016

I spent a relaxing day at Tyntesfield, the spectacular Victorian Gothic Revival house and gardens in north Somerset, last weekend. The house was amazing of course, but I was just as impressed with the walled garden and its cut flower borders. At this time of year the borders are full of Dahlias of many shapes and colours.

The large ‘cactus’ Dahlia flowers are glorious but I love the small ‘pompoms’, they are just wonderful. Nature has made a flower so perfect, with each row of curled petals sitting exactly between the next, making decreasing rings to the centre - magic!

I haven’t come across any silk pompom Dahlias yet but there are some lovely larger ones available, which would make a lovely autumn hand tied type bouquet.
